A one day backstrap weaving workshop on October 11th 2025
Learn how to weave on a backstrap loom using natural fibres including silk, linen and wool. This workshop will teach the basics of how to set up your loom and some weave techniques and structures. Each participant will go home with their own laser cut backstrap loom to continue with the project and further develop weaving skills. Materials and refreshments are included and participants are welcome to bring other materials to experiment with. The workshop will take place in a cabin on the land in a beautiful rural setting near Shepton Mallet in Somerset.
Participants will learn:
How to set up a backstrap loom
Basic weave structures and techniques
How to plan a warp
Weave notation and terminology
Workshop outcomes:
Instruction cards and a backstrap loom
Finished or developing woven piece depending on what you choose to make
Participants can work on individual projects to weave a wall hanging, book mark, coasters, cuff, pendant or samples.
There will be a maximum of six participants on each workshop, allowing for plenty of one to one tuition in an inclusive and relaxed atmosphere. This workshop requires a minimum of four participants to run. Tea/Coffee and cake will be provided, please bring your own lunch.
